To design innovative, forgiving golf clubs that help recreational golfers hit better shots from any lie on the course.
We were founded in 1991 when Barney Adams acquired the assets of the bankrupt Preceptor Golf. Initially, we focused on custom club fitting, measuring customers to determine optimal shaft length and head placement, then testing various club configurations to find the perfect match for each golfer's swing. In 1992, we established our custom-fitting operation that became central to our identity as a tailor-made supplier of golf clubs.
Our breakthrough came in 1995 when we introduced the Tight Lies fairway wood, featuring an innovative upside-down trapezoidal head shape, shallow face, and low center of gravity. This revolutionary design made it significantly easier for amateur golfers to hit shots that previously required difficult long irons. The Tight Lies became one of the best-selling fairway woods of all time and established our reputation for game-improvement technology.
Throughout the 1990s, we grew into one of the most successful brands in the golf industry, earning endorsements from world-renowned professionals including Tom Watson and Nick Faldo. We went public on NASDAQ and expanded internationally to the UK, Japan, and Canada. In 2012, we were acquired by TaylorMade-adidas Golf for approximately $70 million, becoming part of their portfolio of premium golf brands while continuing to develop innovative clubs that make the game more accessible.
